Africa2Moon China Payload Award 2025
BREAKING NEWS FROM SHANGHAI, CHINA
At the 2025 Space Day of China in Shanghai, the Africa2Moon Project, led by the Foundation for Space Development Africa, was officially selected as a payload for China’s Chang’e-8 mission to the Moon’s south pole.
Mission Director Dr. Carla Sharpe Mitchell, a highly valued scholar affiliate of Reasons to Believe Africa, alongside Dr. Adriana Marais, is leading this historic effort to establish Africa’s first radio astronomy array on the lunar surface.
Africa2Moon will deploy 54 antennas — one for each African nation — using innovative low-frequency technology to advance lunar-based radio astronomy.
This achievement marks a major milestone for Africa’s role in global space exploration and stands as a powerful inspiration for future African scientists.
